MDI–Methylene Diphenyl Disocyanate
It is also known in the trade as Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate, MDI, Polymeric MDI, MDI 80. It is frequently marketed under the trademarks Millionate and Coronate.
What is MDI?
Polymeric Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate is a mixture of the isomers of MDI. It is liquid at room temperature, slightly yellow in color and practically odorless.
What is MDI used for?
Polymeric MDI is used as a raw material, together with materials containing OH groups, to form urethane bonds. It mainlisy used in rigid, semi rigid and integral skin foam as well as in adhesives, coatings and elastomers.
Main characteristics of MDI
- Liquid at room temperature.
- Reacts violently with water.
- Reacts with a wide variety of
polyols (different molecular weights and
functionalities) - Reacts with amino groups to form urea bonds.
